Choosing The Right Pair Of Glasses

Have you ever stopped to think about how your glasses make you look? Although I have worn glasses and contacts for years, it was only a few months ago that I started to evaluate their impact on my appearance. I saw a few pictures of myself that I didn't particularly enjoy, and it was then that I decided to meet with a fashion consultant to discuss my looks. I learned a lot from those meetings, and I can't even begin to tell you how much of a difference my stylist made on my self esteem. My blog is here to help you to choose glasses that will make you feel powerful, beautiful, and professional, so that you can enjoy your life.

Does Your Child Need An Eye Exam? What To Know

by Lisa Perkins

As a parent, one of the biggest challenges is recognizing when your child has a problem with their vision. Unless that vision problem is significantly pronounced, such as near blindness, it can be difficult to actually recognize it in the early ages. That's one of the reasons most pediatricians conduct basic eye-chart exams once children are able to talk. However, those exams aren't infallible. Here's a look at some signs you should watch for that may indicate your child needs an eye exam from an optometrist.

Sitting Close To The Television

Most parents are familiar with the struggle of getting kids to back up from the television. For some reason, children like sitting close to the screen. However, if your child is persistent about being close to the screen, stands directly in front of it frequently, strains to lean in closer to it, and gets upset when they have to move away, it could mean that they are having trouble seeing the screen clearly from a reasonable distance away.

Trouble Reading

Many parents have a mantra that children learn to read at their own pace, which keeps them from stressing out about a child who is a little bit behind the curve in learning how to read. What many parents don't think about is the fact that sometimes reading delays are the result of vision problems. If your child is having trouble seeing, they won't be able to see letters clearly. As a result, it can make learning how to read a serious challenge. When you have a child who is slow to read, you should be attentive to other signs of vision problems as well. That way, you can pursue an eye exam and potentially get your child glasses if there is a proven vision issue.

Poor Grades

For early school-age children, poor grades are another indication that your child might have a vision problem. By itself, it could simply be that your child struggles with school. However, when combined with other symptoms of vision issues, poor grades could indicate that your child needs an eye exam and corrective lenses.

Especially for kids who are born with a vision issue, they won't know to tell you they are having a hard time seeing because, to them, that's how things are supposed to look. When they don't know any different, they don't know that something's wrong. It's not until they get glasses and can see clearly that they realize that they have a vision problem. If your child is showing any of these signs, reach out for an eye exam as soon as possible.
